Genesis Global Casinos

When experienced people come together to make something happen, the wheels can start turning very quickly indeed, and that is exactly what happened when Genesis Global Ltd was formed in 2014.

That makes the company still relatively new, at least if you put them next to some of the older names, but I am sure you will have heard of at least one of their brands.

This combined experience also gave them a foot in the door with developers such as Microgaming, NetEnt, Evolution, Play’n GO, and Yggdrasil.

Genesis Leave UK Market December 2022

We no longer list any Genesis brands following their decision to leave the UK market at the end of 2022.

Genesis previously had their UK license suspended in 2022 for responsible gambling failings and were again fined £3.8 million in early 2022 for further failings in ensuring customer safety.

Following these issues Genesis struggled in the UK market and decided to call it a day at the end of 2022.  It is no surprise they did this ahead of more stringent rules around safe gambling coming in in 2023.

About the Company

Concentrating on the UK market via a multi-brand strategy saw Genesis Global build up a roster of eight different online casino’s only 5 years after launching.

Now they have 14.

Their business plans have been single focussed so far in that they do not develop their own games for players to try, they concentrate solely on creating interesting brands tailored to specific types of players using real time data. This gets the right brand to the right customer so both casino and player stay happy.

They are based in Malta like so many others, but they also have offices in Gdansk, Poland.

Genesis Global UK License 3 Month Suspension 2020

suspendedGenesis Global had its UK Gambling License suspended on the 20th July 2020 with immediate effect.  This lead to a 3 month period where Genesis could not provide gambling services in the UK.

It is unusual for the UKGC to suspend licenses without warning and this suggests serious failings.  The Commission did not detail exactly what the company was suspended for at the time, citing they have “reason to suspect that activities may have been carried on in purported reliance on the licence but not in accordance with a condition of the licence

However, the license was reinstated in October 2020 and Genesis were able to continue providing casino games to customers as usual.  This was only after the UKGC were satisfied that significant changes had been made to their social responsibility and anti-money laundering processes, in order to protect their customers.

The company hired new staff to bolster their Risk Payment and Fraud team and enable them to do a better job in this area.

In early 2022 the extent of Genesis’ previous misgivings was made known, and they were issued with a £3.8 million fine, a warning, and a condition on their license demanding further auditing.

They had essentially allowed players who were clearly showing signs of problem gambling behaviour to continue spending money they did not have. What is worse is that Genesis were well aware of these customers’ situations early on in their site membership, but nothing or very little was done to stop them losing money.

These customers’ individual losses added up to 6 figures in most cases, and £600,000 in the worst case, so the fine was certainly warranted.
